Why I think water based lube is King!

There are so many versions of lube out in the world today, silicones and hybrids, oil based, cream, thick and thin, and my personal all-time favourite; Water based!

Now this isn’t a dis piece on other lubes, I appreciate all slippery aids and we’re gonna talk about em! Silicone lube is a great go-to for glass and metal toys, as well as one on one anal play. It is usually thicker and will last longer than a water based, it doesn't absorb as quickly into the skin. Another benefit to silicone is that it’s waterproof, so it can be ideal for those looking to get freaky in the pool on late summer nights. The biggest downside to silicone lube is that it can't be used with most silicone toys, silicone and silicone cannot be friends. Hybrid works for those who like the thickness and last of silicone but want something that has the best of both worlds. It lasts typically longer than water based, is safe to use with silicone toys, and is easier to wash away thanks to it being part water. Oil based is great for providing extra moisture and tends to last a little longer than your average silicone or water based, but has its downsides as well. For example, it cannot be used with anything latex as the oil will degrade the material, and should not be used with silicone toys for the same reason. It does however make for great massage oil if it's all you've got on hand, silicone lube too! 

So, why do I prefer water based?

Although I've heard complaints of some being sticky or not lasting long enough (needing to re-apply), I am willing to overlook these small issues for one factor; You can use it for EVERYTHING! I have run into some sticky, non-lasting lubes before, for example my least favourite lube of all time is the Shunga Toko. No hate on the brand or company, their massage and bath products are to die for, unbeatable smells! However I find their lubes lacking a certain finesse. They're incredibly runny and sticky, who wants that kind of mess while trying to get their rocks off? A tried and true for me has to be swiss navy’s water based lube, in the squeeze bottle rather than the pump. Swiss navy has a handful of lubes but this one in particular is my favourite, its formula is thicker than their usual pump bottles which in my opinion, is a necessity. I'm not scared to admit, I am a runny lube hater through and through. Nothing is worse to me than watching my lube run away before I can use it. 

Another amazing brand that has a wicked thick lube is Sutil! Here at SensationO Moncton we are huge fans of Sutil, it's one of our usual recommendations. Their formulas contain hyaluronic acid for a more in depth hydration as well as ecotin and perilla for soothing and anti-inflammatory, which means their products are sensitive skin friendly! Basically, it's thick as hell and made for anybody's lips, also its woman owned/run and canadian made! We love local products! 

Despite the many upsides of other lubes, and the downsides of water based, I’ll forever be biased. For every toy, for every body, for every occasion, water based lube is there for you!
